My journey to this moment was paved with battle scars. Before the trucks, I fought a war against addiction. It has been 10 years since I walked away from that destructive life. A year after getting clean, I lost my father to cancer. Through it all, I was a mother, fighting to build a future from the cab of a truck. I know what it means to navigate a system not built for you. I have lived through poverty, relied on WIC and SNAP, and known the cold reality of having no stationary bed to lay my head. I have also lived in beautiful homes. This spectrum of experience has given me a rare education. It taught me resourcefulness when resources were scarce, and it gave me a radar for what is real and what is fake.
Throughout my career, I have been pinpointed over and over again—for being a woman, for being a mother, for being "too much"—singled out for simply existing and dreaming of more. I was constantly told to "calm down," that I was "thinking too big." The Maker's Stay is my answer to that doubt. It is proof that for those of us who have survived the fire, no dream is too big.
It is precisely because of what I’ve been through—and what we as a team have overcome—that we are the right ones to extend this invitation. The Maker's Stay is our way of offering a hand up, not a hand-out. We are taking the hard-earned lessons of our past and building a strategic bridge for others to cross. Because we all truly deserve better than the limitations we’ve been raised to expect and accept.
